Could this be the freeware alternative to Pixologic's Zbrush?
It certainly looks the part at this early alpha stage (well it looks more like a good beta in fact).
As Dr. Petter the author states , Sculptris is still under development and the version you can currently download is an early alpha (alpha3). The program not only uses dynamic mesh tesselation fwhile you paint but REALLY lot's of more interesting features. Like UV mapping, texture painting AND normal painting. After you have finished modelling (errmm sculpting) and texturing you can not only export your model to the .obj format but also varioys textures for diffuse, bumpoAND normal mapping!
I've personally tested it on an AMD dual-core @ 2.2 and on Intel Q6600 and I can already tell you I've already loved it for the following reasons:
- It is blazing fast
- The interface is stunningly good
- It has quite a satisfactory amount of options and
- It's free!!!
There are already quite a few videos on Youtube demonstrating it's abilities
